WEEK 4 REFLECTION
For today session, we discussed on types of conference to build sustainability. It was a continous effort starting from the Rio de Janeiro conference in 1992. The next effort is the Kyoto Protocol. The Kyoto Protocol, adopted in 1997, was an international treaty focused on reducing greenhouse gas emissions to combat climate change. It set legally binding targets for developed countries to cut emissions by specific amounts, aiming to reduce global warming. The protocol marked the first major commitment to reducing emissions, though some countries (like the U.S.) chose not to participate. It laid the foundation for future agreements like the Paris Agreement.
As i have mentioned before it is a continous effort. The Johannesburg Summit, also called the World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD), took place in 2002 in South Africa. It aimed to build on the goals of the Rio Earth Summit (1992) by promoting sustainable development worldwide, focusing on issues like poverty, water, sanitation, and energy access. Key outcomes included commitments to tackle these issues and the launch of new partnerships between governments, businesses, and communities to promote sustainable practices.
We also acknowledge the role by developed and developing countries in order to sustain the plan. The lecture today is really beneficial as I realise that sustainability effort is a complex roles. Everyone play their own role to success the sustainability.
Nice!
